My road warrior arrives! The PowerBook 170:
Okay, it actually arrived last week, but I was off on vacation and didn't pick it up until now. I bought it from another member of the 68kmla, and is a nice little machine. 8MB of RAM and an 80MB hard drive. It came loaded with System 7.5.3 and ClarisWorks 4, although once I get a chance I'll likely install 7.1 and some of the same apps I have on the IIsi. I find 7.5.3 to be a little bloated for my taste, and if I can live with 6.0.8 on the IIsi, I can certainly live with 7.1, which is the minimum system for the 170.
The 170 is in good shape, and I've always loved the design of the old 100 series PowerBooks. I spend a lot of time on the road, so for the interest of the challenge, I bought this machine to take with me on trips to keep the blog updated. Unfortunately without onboard ethernet, I have no way of connecting it in a hotel room. So until I get a SCSI/Ethernet adapter for it, I'll just create the blog entries and transfer them over to my Dell laptop to be FTP'd to the hosting site.
I'm looking forward to starting the challenge tomorrow! I spend the week in Miami, so I'll be using the PowerBook primarily. I have to take my Dell laptop for work, but other than work related stuff and uploading blogs, I'll keep its use to a minimum. I guess this is the last entry to be written on the Dell - it's all 68030 goodness from here on out!
